TERMS OF SALE:

All items are offered subject to prior sale. All prices are subject to change.

Important: If you prefer to order directly with Other Worlds (rather than indirectly through Abebooks, Amazon, etc) then please send an email directly from you to sfbooks@cox.net. Do not use any email buttons found on those other sites (nor their ordering procedures) else Other Worlds may be required to refer you back to those sites to complete your purchase.

Please have your order confirmed before sending payment. I will verify (as soon as possible) what is available and what is not (due to prior sale, etc) and I will quote you a total amount due. Items are held (up to ten days while awaiting payment) for firm orders only.

SHIPPING / INSURANCE / AND HANDLING:

(NB: The shipping matrix maximums set by Abebooks.com are sometimes unrealistically low, especially for certain size/weight/value non-US orders, and requests for extra shipping may be needed. Also, some meta-search sites, such as Bookfinder.com when reporting matches from Bibliophile.com, incorrectly "estimate" the shipping amount rather than check what it actually is.)

US customers: Minimum charges are (with insurance included): $5.00 for the first item plus $1.50 for each additional item, or (sent not insured at your request): $4.00 for the first item plus $1.50 for each additional item. However, bulky/heavy items and/or orders insured for more than $50 may require a higher charge. My normal shipping method is USPS media mail/insured, but if some other arrangement would be preferred, for example USPS priority mail/insured (including flat rate envelopes for appropriately sized items), please inquire as to availability/price.

Non-US customers: Inquire but please specify whether or not you want the order insured. (Insurance may not be available for some orders either in whole or in part, or may require a more expensive shipping method than non-insured orders). NB: On May 14th 2007 the USPS did away with all surface mailing options, and also reclassified and substantially raised the rates of its air options.

All customers: Insured orders will be covered for loss or damage, while in transit to the customer, but only subject to the terms, conditions, and limits set by the carrier (for example, USPS). Other Worlds will not be liable to any customer for any loss or damage in transit for any un-insured order, nor for any portion of any order that is not insured. Any such un-insured order, or un-insured portion of any order, is sent entirely at the risk of the customer.

TYPES OF PAYMENT ACCEPTED:

     United States based customers:

All prices/payment in US dollars (by check, money order, or in US currency). Orders paid by check may be held until such checks are known to have cleared the banking system.

Please note that Other Worlds no longer directly accepts any credit cards or debit cards (nor PayPal or the like) for payment.

Alternately, if you must pay by credit card, you could try ordering the item through Abebooks (although you would be subject to the item pricing/shipping terms/etc found on that site). NB: Please do not use the single-field search box at the top of the page, rather use the multi-field search that appears under the words "Other Worlds Bookstore" on that page.

Alternately, if you must pay by credit card, you could try ordering the item through Alibris (although you would be subject to the item pricing/shipping terms/etc found on that site). NB: Please do not use the single-field search box at the top of the page, rather use the multi-field search that appears under the words "Other Worlds Bookstore" on that page.

Alternately, if you must pay by credit card, you could try ordering the item through Amazon.com (although you would be subject to the item pricing/shipping terms/etc found on that site).

     Non-United States based customers:

All prices/payment in US dollars. If you can arrange payment directly (not just counter-drawn) from a US based source, then you can pay as above. Otherwise:

Canadian and Japanese postal system money orders that are denominated in US dollars are acceptable. IMPORTANT: Since these will be cashed through the U.S. Post Office system, rather than deposited into a business banking account, please make them payable to "Catherine Dobish" [as she makes most of the trips to the Post Office] rather than to "Other Worlds Bookstore". (If you are in another country that can also issue postal system money orders denominated in US dollars, please let me know and I will check into whether or not I can accept them, and then advise you back).

Western Union money orders denominated in US dollars, if they are mailed directly to me, are acceptable.

Western Union US dollar denominated money transfers (electronic/money orders) through a local Western Union office are also acceptable. HOWEVER, there will be a US$10 surcharge (per order, not per item) to cover the extra time and travel involved in retrieving such payments. If you will be paying by this method, please let me know ahead of time, so that I can quote the correct total amount that would be due.

Any other non-US check or money order, even if denominated in US dollars and counter-drawn on a US institution, (or any other type of bank instrument, such as a wire transfer) would not be acceptable (due to uncertainty over the possibility/amount of any associated clearing/collection fees).

You can also send US currency, although I do not advise doing so due to possible loss/theft in transit.

NB: Most international orders are first shipped to an Alibris freight forwarder [located in the USA] and from there on to the customer [rather than directly from Other Worlds to the customer]. While that may result in a slower shipping speed, it also typically results in a significantly lower shipping cost to the customer that what is available through other sites.

NB: Due to an inadequate shipping allowance, no international orders will be accepted via Amazon.com.

GRADING AND OTHER ITEM DESCRIPTIONS:

     GRADING:

I use the traditional book grading system wherein Fine is the highest grade for a used book (and implies no significant wear or other flaws). Near Fine is better than VG+ which is better than VG (Very Good). When the details of wear are not given, VG (Very Good) implies moderate wear overall; Good implies heavy wear. (Please note that Very Good and Good *when used as book grades* are technical terms, and they do *not* have the same meanings as the common/everyday usage of the words might otherwise imply. Reasonable translations might be: "Very Good" equals "so-so" and "Good" equals "kinda crappy").
Specific flaws (remainder and/or distributor marks, owner names/inscriptions, price clipped Dust Wrappers, underlining/marginal annotations, missing text/illustrations, being ex-library, etc) are additionally noted whenever observed.
New means that the item was received directly from the publisher/distributor (regardless of how long ago, with or without manufacturing/shipping flaws) and is not a grade (however, if I notice any substantial damage/defect it will be included in the item description).

     FIRST EDITIONS:

"First edition" (when used without elaboration/qualification) implies that the item is also a first printing. Similarly, use of "first edition thus" or "first US edition" or "first UK edition" or "first hardcover edition" or "second edition" etc (without elaboration/qualification) implies that the item is also a first printing of the specified edition. (When I believe an item to be a later printing of a given edition, I will so indicate, including, if known, which specific printing).

     SCANS:

I do scans (not digital photographs). If you want a scan of a particular item, please make your request by email, specifying what part of the item you would prefer to see. (Scans are limited by what will safely fit on the bed of my scanner. For example, I generally don't scan interior pages, as doing so might damage the binding).
My items already have accompanying scans on Abebooks.
NB: Some scans will exhibit one or more (light colored) vertical lines, or/and moire patterns, which are an artifact of the scanning process and which are not present on the actual items. Similarly, some scans will exhibit areas of glare, particularly of those Dust Wrappers which have been placed within a clear plastic protector or of items which are still sealed within the publisher's original clear plastic shrinkwrap.

     LIMITED EDITIONS:

When describing limited editions, "1/xxx numbered copies" (or "A random number from among xxx numbered copies") means that the copy could be any numbered copy out of the run of xxx, not that it is the specific copy numbered #1 from the run of xxx. (Were the latter the case, the item would have been described as being "copy #1/xxx numbered copies"). Lettered copies are treated similarly. (If needed, the specific copy number/letter is available upon request; unless the item has been shrinkwrapped/sealed in a manner that prevents determining its specific number/letter).

TELEPHONE CALLS:

Please restrict all calls to between Noon and 10:00PM my time. If my wife (Catherine) answers, she will be glad to take your message. If neither of us is home, or if the line is busy, a password protected answering machine is available. (If you leave a message, please be as detailed as practical, and please include your email address if you have one).

RETURN POLICY:

Returns are allowed within five days of receipt for any reason with only one restriction: any returned items must be received back in the same condition (including being unopened if shipped still sealed in the publisher's original shrinkwrap) as when they were originally sent by Other Worlds. Items damaged in transit---in either direction---will not be accepted for return (but see the comments about insurance above).

Refunds for returned items will exclude all shipping/insurance/and handling charges unless Other Worlds agrees that the items were substantially not as originally described.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR BUSINESS:

The searchable (and updated several times each week) on-line inventory currently contains about 30,000 items (of which over 5,000 are signed).

Other Worlds Bookstore specializes in used and out-of-print science fiction, fantasy, and horror; but also carries selected other fiction and non-fiction. Other Worlds stocks hardcovers, paperbacks, and magazines; ranging from inexpensive reading/filler copies to signed first editions in Fine condition.

Other Worlds ceased being an open shop in 1999. Regretfully, personal visits (to browse the inventory, pick up orders, etc) are no longer practical.

WANTED TO BUY:

I am always looking to buy (for resale) quality books and magazines, particularly so in the science fiction, fantasy, and/or horror genres. Single items or entire collections. Please advise with full particulars (including the specific price/prices for which you will sell the item/s).
